Diplomate of the National Board

Sankar Foundation Eye Institute is accredited by the National Board of Examinations to offer a 3-year training programme leading to DNB in Ophthalmology

Post DO DNB

Sankar Foundation Conducts a 2-Year NBE accredited Post Graduation Program for Post Diploma in Ophthalmology Qualified doctors. Post 2 year training they will be awarded DNB in Ophthalmology by NBE.

Diplomate of the National Board

Sankar Foundation Eye Institute is accredited by the National Board of Examinations to offer a 3-year training programme leading to DNB in Ophthalmology.
Candidates for the programme need to be Indian Nationals. Seats will be allotted through centralized counselling by NEET exam during the January session.
For this three-year program,  Four candidates are admitted during January Session every  year. Out of the  Four candidates selected, Two are primary candidates and the other two are secondary candidate

Primary candidate

These are students who are admitted immediately after MBBS.

Secondary candidate

These are students who have completed both their MBBS and Diploma in Ophthalmology.

Number of Seats Allocated : 2 MBBS and 2 Post MBBS

Procedure to Join

Candidates desirous of applying for the course should have passed MBBS and should have cleared NEET conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
Subsequently, the candidate should be registered for the centralized counselling with NBE in order to be eligible for admission.
The candidate may choose “Sankar Foundation Eye Institute” as their preferred choice to undergo the DNB training in Ophthalmology. Then the candidate may come and join as per NBE guidelines.

Post DO DNB

This candidates for this course are also to attend NEET examination and opt for DNB in Centralised Counselling conducted by NBE.  The Candidates have to chose the option of Sankar Foundation Eye Institute, Visakhapatnam for their choice to get admission in the Course.  The Option of allocation of seats will be displayed in the NBE Protal for candidates to choose the Hospital.

Academic Activities

Components of Training

There are various components of training that are imparted during the three year DNB program. Some of them are listed below
  1. Bedside Clinic Training.
  2. On call duties during emergency hours under supervision.
  3. Attending Out -patient Departments.
  4. Handling general ophthalmic cases independently.
  5. Follow up on surgical cases.
  6. Assisting in all major & minor operations/ procedures.
  7. Consulting with the faculty of various subspecialties in related ophthalmic diseases.
  8. Performance of minor surgeries / procedures independently.
  9. The team of DNB post graduates, doctors and support staff go for Comprehensive Eye Screening Camps in the rural areas in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh wherein the postgraduates get a wide clinical experience hands on.
The DNB Postgraduates have a designated Department HOD and a Departmental DNB Coordinator. They ensure the training is conducted in full compliance with DNB and NBE training accreditation requirements.
